NY Times hit piece on caste and a Sri Lankan Connection

Interesting midterm election sideshow on Indian Caste in NY Times.

JD Vance a Republican is married to an Indian Usha Chilukuri. The NY Times hit piece implies Usha is of low caste and a traitor to her origins. i.e she is sleeping with the enemy the Republicans and not supporting the party of the oppressed the Democratic Party

One of the blog commentors says Chilukuri is a fairly common and standard Kamma surname  So looked up the Kamma Caste.

What I (as a Sri Lankan) found interesting is that the Kamma have sub group called the Nayaks. During the reign of the Vijayanagara Empire, Kamma Nayaks (commanders) were appointed as governors in many areas of Tamil Nadu.[

The last three Kings of Kandyan Sri Lanka were pure as in India born and bred Telugu Nayaks. They inherited the throne thru the wife of the last Sinhalese King Narendrasinghe.

Another side note. The Sinhalese use the word Andara Demla (Tamil) for anything unintelligible. I assume that was from Andhra Telugu which is kind of similar to Tamil probably. Andhra Telugu was probably used extensively in the court during the last three reigns and totally unintelligible to almost all Sinhalese

Also read King Narendrasinghes history He was the son of a concubine, but adopted and brought by up Vimaladharmasurya II's Queen Pramila Devi who was from Madurai (I sssume Telugu)
Incidentally Vimaladharmasurya II's father King Rajasinghe II (knox's King) later married his daughter.

  1. Another nonsensical rant by a malcontent clown who is a Russian puppet. The NYT piece attempts to show the contradictory and ever changing politics of the Vances, no?
